Baja California State Police arrest man with ties to drug cartel

Baja California Government

MEXICALI, Mexico (KYMA) - Baja California State Police arrested a man with ties to the drug cartel wanted by the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA).

State police say the operation was launched following a citizen tip reporting a location allegedly used for drug trafficking.

About eight people fled the scene, but authorities ultimately arrested a man from San Luis, Mexico, who is wanted by the DEA for alleged ties to the Sinaloa Cartel.

"This operation targeted a major criminal group affiliated with the Sinaloa Cartel, known as Los Rusos," said Fabricio Ruiz, Director of Baja California Security Intelligence. "Since last year, authorities have carried out several arrests, including mid-level leaders of the organization. Officials believe these arrests have significantly weakened the cartel's operations in the region."

Police also found an aircraft with and 20 kilos of drugs near the scene. No additional arrests have been made.
