Arizona State Veterans Home Yuma now open

YUMA, Ariz. (KYMA, KECY) - The Arizona Department of Veterans' Services (ADVS) held a grand opening of a new facility here in Yuma Saturday.

This is to help Veterans live at a 24-hour skilled nursery in Yuma.

The opening took place at 10:00am, and was expected to have over 100 people to attend the ceremony.

For Yuma City Councilman Gary Knight, the grand opening was very personal.

"I remember when I first took office in 2014, it was just an idea…A distant goal. And now, finally, it's a reality. This facility is a perfect example of what we could accomplish when citizens and elected officials of the city, state and federal governments partner and work together for a common goal," Knight explained.

During the ceremony, the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks Lodge 476 presented gloves for Veterans bound to wheelchairs.

Not only that, the Military Order of the Cooties presented Cootie Cinema, where residents can watch movies on friday nights.

After the ceremony was over, attendees were invited to tour the facility as well as have lunch.
