New Details: YFD says 1st Avenue fire started in a wall
Flames spread quickly into attic space
YUMA, Ariz. (KYMA, KECY) - The Yuma Fire Department (YFD) is releasing more details on a fire that broke out Monday night in a house on S. 1st Avenue and 18th Street.
Engines arrived just after seven to find both smoke and flames coming from the house. Firefighters vented the roof, and acted fast to protect neighboring homes. Crews had the fire doused within 40-minutes. YFD personnel stayed on scene throughout the night to monitor for flare-ups.
The house was vacant at the time of the fire. It was also under renovation. YFD says workers left the property about an hour before the fire was reported. They locked up properly, and there was no sign the blaze was deliberately set.

YFD says its preliminary investigation indicates the fire started in a wall, then quickly spread into the attic space. Flames left the house seriously damaged. Parts of its roof did collapse.
The fire did not damage any of the surrounding properties, and no one got hurt.
