Senator Kyrsten Sinema visits Yuma to host two roundtables

Senator Sinema will be hosting two roundtables and meeting with local first responders and leaders

YUMA, Ariz. (KYMA, KECY) - Senator Kyrsten Sinema (I-Arizona) is visiting Yuma on Wednesday to meet with local first responders, leaders, hospital representatives, organizations, and more in two roundtable discussions.

For the first roundtable, Senator Sinema will discuss the border crisis' demand for emergency services and the strain on local governments and border communities.

Senator Sinema will meet with Yuma, Somerton, and San Luis First Responders and local mayors, county leaders, and hospital representatives.

Emergency service leaders from all three cities say they're struggling with the high number of emergency calls coming in.

And with the temperatures rising, so are the migrant emergency calls tied to heat related injuries and Amanda Aguirre with the regional center for border health says money that's going to other cities in other states should instead be going to border cities like yuma, Senator Sinema couldn’t agree more

"When I hear folks from other parts of the country say oh its hard, our shelters are overwelmed. Yeah, come and live a day in the life of Yuma, Somerton or San Luis" Sinema stated.

For the second roundtable, Senator Sinema will discuss federal funding for Yuma and economic opportunities for the region.

Sinema will meet with the mayor, local elected officials, Arizona Western College, Greater Yuma Economic Development Corporation, and a broadband group.

KYMA will be livestreaming both roundtables at 2 p.m. and 3 p.m. The livestream will be in this article, on our livestream page, and on our YouTube channel.
