Local organization reduces solar panel waste

YUMA, Ariz. (KYMA, KECY) - "We Recycle Solar" is giving solar panels another life by taking in broken panels that were damaged by extreme weather.

They are working with other companies and putting those materials back into the supply chain.

According to the Office of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy, solar panels only last around 30 to 35 years, and then are thrown out to waste fields.

But due to extreme weather like wildfires, hurricanes, and tornadoes, that life span is decreasing to around eight to 12 years.

There are also many people who decide to upgrade to newer solar panels.

"We Recycle Solar" started as an electronic waste recycling company and shifted gears to recycling solar panels to take over the ever-growing solar panel waste.
