Child thwarts attempted kidnapping, suspect flees

YUMA, Ariz. (KYMA, KECY) - An 11-year-old girl escaped the clutches of an attempted kidnapper, according to the Yuma County Sheriff's Office (YCSO).

In detail, the incident occurred on Saturday, December 17 at approximately 8:51pm.

The incident also happened near the area of E. 34th Street and S. Payson Drive.

The YCSO then responded to the scene where they learned that a gray early 2000s Suburban type SUV drove by the 11-year-old child.

Plus, the SUV's sole driver, described in a press release, is a heavy-set Hispanic male, with dark curly hair, a beard and had an odor of alcoholic beverages.

Once the driver of the SUV made a U-turn and parked, the suspect exited the vehicle and followed her.

While calling out the child, the child noticed him, but kept walking to her house.

Eventually, the suspect grabbed the child by the shirt collar and tried to get her into his SUV.

However, the child broke free and ran inside the home, causing the suspect to flee.

If anyone has any information on this case, then contact YCSO at (928) 783-4427 or 78-CRIME to remain anonymous.
