Visit Yuma awards several parade participants

KYMA

YUMA, Ariz. (KYMA, KECY) - Visit Yuma has awarded winners of the 19th Annual Dorothy Young Memorial Electric Light Parade.

Through a press release, the parade took place on Saturday, December 10.

In addition, the parade drew 40,000 Yuma residents and visitors to the Historic North End to celebrate this year's parade.

The event also boasted nearly 94 lighted, festive, and radical entries.

"I loved it, I've been setting up in the same spot for the last five years, and my son and I go to the theater buy some popcorn and make a day of it." Said Petey Soto of Yuma.

Soto further added that he loved the theme, "Neon 80s," and how creative people got.

"It’s incredible how much our community loves this annual event. We saw Dudes and Dudettes come out and support our community and light it up with lights both neon and regular in a show that can only be described as radical! Events hold a revised place in all our hearts coming out of the pandemic, they provide us a chance to get together as a community and enjoy it together. I think it shows what a great travel and event season we will have this year! Our community is best when we are together and when we invite our neighbors in," said Marcus O. Carney, Visit Yuma's Executive Director.

With this in mind, here are the winners of the 19th Annual Dorothy Young Memorial Electric Light Parade:

  • Mary Jane Allen Award for Best Depiction of Parade Theme: Big Red Barn Preschool
  • Best Float: Peynado Memorial Float
  • Best Vehicle: New Class Car Club
  • Glam Dance Studio for Best Walking/Performing
  • Best Animal: Tammy's Grooming
  • Dorothy Young Memorial Trophy Best Performing Band: San Luis High School Marching Band.
