The public is invited to come out and remember the life of Addison “Addie” Tams

A walk to remember her life and to help other children will be held on May 7

YUMA, Ariz. (KYMA, KECY) - It's a heartbreaking statistic, each year 10,000 Americans die before their first birthday. For most that one year, is spent fighting for each breath, fighting to live.

The cause, Congenital Heart Defects, and not too long ago we lost another. Addison "Addie" Tams. Addie was born with CHD and spent most of her first years in a hospital bed.

Seeing pictures of this child lying in a hospital bed, tubes and bandages covering her, will bring a tear to the toughest of us. But, despite being in a hospital Addie smiled.

In 2020, Addie passed away, and her mother Stacy created Addie Packs a nonprofit aimed at helping families with ill children.

Addie Packs are backpacks filled with last-minute items that families traveling to and from hospitals may need. Things like crafts, information on hotels that offer patient's family lodging, and gift cards.

But, on Saturday, May 7, Addie Packs is hosting its first-ever Walk for Addie event at Smucker Park. Proceeds from the event will go to help purchase and mount handicap-accessible playsets at McGraw Elementary.

Registration for the walk is $35 per person/$100 for a family of 4. AddiePacks is always accepting donations.
