Hospice of Yuma honors local veterans

Collaborates with Cross Fit for Memorial Day Weekend

YUMA, Ariz. (KYMA, KECY) - A local chapter of Cross Fit, Fuel For Life, has partnered with the Hospice of Yuma to continue their annual Memorial Day Murph honoring LT. Michael P. Murphy (SEAL) on Saturday, May 29.

LT. Murphy was killed in action in Afghanistan in 2005, and was awarded the U.S. military's highest decoration, the Medal of Honor, for his actions during the war. He was a man who sacrificed everything he had for America's freedom. This fitness gauntlet pays ultimate respect for him.

All proceeds from this event will be donated to Hospice of Yuma's "We Honor Veterans" program. Plus, each registration includes a custom Murph T-shirt.

Fuel Fitness is offering two separate full Murph event times to register for, as well as a half Murph.

The schedule will go as follows:

  • 6:00am Full Murph
  • 7:30am Full Murph
  • 9:00am Half Murph

Individuals interested in participating may register here. It's only $20 total to take on the challenge for a great cause, give back to local Veterans and go home wearing some new swag.

The Hospice of Yuma is also seeking volunteers eager to aid Yuma County's only nonprofit hospice.

Volunteers will be trained to help provide:

  • Respite support, allowing caregivers time away from home.
  • Companionship for patients.
  • Bereavement support to our patient's families.
  • Office support to staff.
  • Ceremonies for our We Honor Veterans Program.
  • Thrift shop assistance.

Individuals interested in volunteering are asked to register for one of the Hospice's three, upcoming volunteer orientations during June 15-17. All trainings will take place in the Hospice of Yuma's conference room at 1824 S. 8th Ave. from 1-4 p.m.

Please register by contacting Director of Volunteer Services Denise Coronado at (928) 343-2222 or dcoronado@hospiceofyuma.com
