Two Rivers Renaissance Faire unique experience keeps residents coming back

YUMA, Ariz. (KYMA, KECY)- Since his youth, Yuma resident Gregory Sarmiento has been an avid fan of renaissance faires.

"Going to Knotts Berry Farm in California. Watching blacksmiths there shoeing the horses. Watching that for yourself is kind have been a fun thing to watch and experience."

What keeps him coming back is the authentic experience of life during that period.

Sarmiento added, "It's more like an educational thing because you get all the good reenactments. You get all the authentic garb and food and just the designs of the layouts.

Desiree Foster, the Dutchess of the Two Rivers Renaissance Faire said the rare entertainment offered is what plays a huge role in residents returning to the event.

"There are things to see that are unique to where we are and what we do. I don't know anywhere else you can watch a joust or sword fighters or blacksmiths all the time. It's just out there."

But more importantly, it's thanks to the dedication and hard work from locals that make the faire a success.

"The vendors and the performers are from all over the country and the world. But the people who make the fair happen, hey we're Yuma. And we're always looking for Yuma to come be a part or take part."

Considered one of the top hundred renaissance faires in the country, Foster hopes the event continues to grow.

"I would love to see this event grow into several weeks. And you know be something even bigger. But if it remains small and as well made and put together as it stays, I think that Yuma can be proud of it's faire. On the national and international stage, Yuma shines," said Foster.
