Statewide grant awarded to San Luis schools
SAN LUIS, Ariz. (KYMA, KECY)- The Arizona Department of Education awarded Gadsden Elementary School District #32 a grant for $1.56 million dollars.
The grant will provide seven school counselors for a period of three school years. The schools benefitting are:
- Arizona Desert Elementary
- Cesar Chavez Elementary
- Ed. Pastor Elementary
- Gadsden Elementary
- Rio Colorado Elementary
- San Luis Middle School
- Southwest Jr. High
Over 900 public school districts applied statewide. Gadsden Elementary School District says they are fortunate.
School officials say school counselors are needed. The student-counselor ratio has surpassed its limit. Gadsden Elementary District grant writer, Antonio Garcia, says he is hoping students will thrive academically, socially, and emotionally.
Another goal is for parents to stay connected with counselors. This will be provided through social media and parent-counselor meetings.
