Six people participate in Dancing for a Dream

IMPERIAL COUNTY, Calif. (KYMA) - A non-profit dancing competition took place in the Imperial Valley this weekend.

The charity event helped raise funds for kids in need with their medical expenses.

Six couples showed their best moves on the dance floor in the Dancing for a Dream competition. The goal was to make the kids' dreams come true in a fun event.

"So the families get a check of $2,500. Each one get the same amount it doesn't matter who the champ is, and we are based on tickets so went head and got $500 that what we need to pay the bills and pay the families," said Angie Peña, President of the Dancing for a Dream.

The six couples prepared their performances for weeks to represent each kids on the dance floor.

Yasue Maeda, who danced for Nicolette Ruiz, said the event was about bringing the community together for a good cause.

"It's a commitment I have to tell you that, the whole family is involved because you put a lot of tine and hours, but at the end, the cause is what makes it all worth it," Maeda expressed.

Every couple presented a different dance theme, taking the audience to a variety of music styles.

Every couple's performance had good feedback from the judges, including News 11 reporter Lynette Niebla, but in the end, only one could win, and the winners were Antonio Marquez and Selina Deloe, who were dancing for Lucy.

"It's very special to be part of something that is bigger than both of us and all the consensus. It's an honor to represent all these children that need our assistance now more than ever," Marquez remarked.

Peña said the event was a success, and is looking forward to the following edition next year.
