Wiest Lake in Imperial County reopened

KYMA

Imperial County thanks the Imperial Irrigation District for restoring water flow into the lake

IMPERIAL COUNTY, Calif. (KYMA, KECY) - Imperial County and the Department of Public Works announced Wiest Lake has reopened to the public for recreational activities.

Locals and visitors can enjoy fishing, bird-watching, and other recreational activities.

The Imperial County Executive Office reminds visitors to follow these guidelines:

  1. Respect the Environment: Help us preserve the natural beauty of the lake by not littering and disposing of waste in designated areas.
  2. Stay Informed: Stay updated on any advisories or announcements related to Wiest Lake through the County of Imperial’s social media pages and local media sources.
  3. Water Safety: Be mindful of water safety measures and follow any posted signs or instructions. It is always important to exercise caution when swimming or participating in water sports. While the bacteria levels are currently low, caution-level signage will be visible. In addition, please keep domestic animals (i.e. dogs, cats, pets, etc.) away from and out of the lake, as there is a possibility they could consume material that has the potential to cause illness.
  4. Report any Issues: If you notice any unusual water conditions or experience health-related concerns after visiting Wiest Lake, please report them to the park authorities immediately or call (442) 265-1823.
