Local police departments participate in school shooting training
CALEXICO, Calif. (KYMA, KECY) - Before schools all over the Valley start opening their doors for this school year, law enforcement officials are preparing to bring a safe environment for students.
Soon, schools in the Valley will be filled with students that are way TAC 11 from San Diego, a group operated by U.S combat infantrymen and special operations members hosted the training Saturday.
“It was well prepared for months. We worked with school administrators and they allowed us to do one of the two or three classrooms at the school," said Interim Chief Victor Legaspi.
28 law enforcement members from the Calexico Police Department, the El Centro Police Department, the SWAT team, and one Calexico school district safety coordinator all participated.
The Calexico interim police chief said the trainings aren’t the only thing the city is doing.
“We have now our newly appointed school resource police officer Miriam Vega. She’s going to be in our school grounds and the school sites providing assistance and working collaboration with staff and students," said Interim Chief Victor Legaspi.
