Grant requested by Calexico Police Department to fight against theft crime
CALEXICO, Calif. (KYMA, KECY) - Theft crime cases in the City of Calexico happen more often than normal, causing many residents and business owners concerned, especially around the downtown area.
Patrol Officer Sean Sundual with Calexico Police Department wrote the application and sent out a request to a grant fund close to a million dollars to help prevent retail and auto theft in the city.
The grant is called the Border Auto Theft Strike Team.
According to the Calexico City Manager, it is a very competitive grant from the Board of State and Community Corrections.
“They have taken a proactive action by submitting an application to this organization which is the board of state in California corrections and is under the grant that is as the Organized Retail Theft Prevention Grant Program,” said Calexico City Manager Esperanza Colio.
Calexico police said they have planned to request $988,500 in funds.
The grant will include electronics such as computers, and vehicles and hiring two full-time police officers and two part-time officers if funded.
