Representative Raul Ruiz looks to take on the challenges of Imperial County
FOX 9's Adam Klepp spoke to the congressman the day of the California Primary
IMPERIAL COUNTY, Calif. (KECY, KYMA) - Congressman Raul Ruiz is looking to maintain his seat in D.C., but is doing so while he looks to gain voters in a new area of California.
After redistricting, Ruiz now is running to represent the Imperial County, and parts of Riverside County in Congress.
Ruiz says when speaking to voters, the number one issue is rising prices, both at the pump, and in the grocery stores.
He says he hopes to represent the 25th district in part due to the Salton Sea, which Ruiz believes can be a vital part of securing the future energy needs of the United States.
“There’s a much bigger focus on water rights issues, to make sure our economy stays solid and we maintain the workforce. There’s a much bigger focus on the border and crossings and making sure the ports are modernized,” Ruiz said.
As for this evening, Ruiz is confident he’ll come out in the top 2.
“I’m an emergency physician who takes care of people. That my focus is to improve the lives of my patients, and that's why I’m a congressman now doing exactly the same thing,” Ruiz said.
Before redistricting Ruiz previously represented the 36th District.
