Deadly stabbing on Atlanta’s Beltline raises questions

ATLANTA (NBC, KYMA) - A deadly stabbing on Atlanta's Beltline is raising questions about the suspect's criminal history and why he was out on probation.

Police said 54-year-old Jonathan Hamby stabbed a 29-year-old man after an argument, with investigators saying the two men did not know each other.

The victim was taken to a hospital, where he died. The suspect is now in custody.

Court records show he was on probation in both Fulton and Dekalb Counties, including for previous aggravated assault cases involving knives.

Atlanta Police Chief Darin Schierbaum says Hamby has been arrested at least 30 times and is a convicted felon.

This is the second deadly stabbing on the Atlanta Beltline since May.
