North Carolina man allegedly shoots into car after prank gone wrong

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (CBS, KYMA) - A Charlotte, North Carolina man is accused of firing a gun into a car of people, including his girlfriend, after police say a prank went wrong.

CBS affiliate WBTV reports at around 11:40 p.m. Eastern Friday, police said 20-year-old Shyhied Ivey fired three shots into a vehicle occupied by five people, including his girlfriend, Naveah Covington.

Police said Covington and a male friend decided to play a prank on her boyfriend while they were getting food with three other people.

The affidavit said that Covington had her male friend call Ivey and pretend he was cheating on Ivey with her.

Covington and Ivey had been dating for five months, the affidavit said.

According to the affidavit, Ivey had called Covington, was angry and was driving recklessly, trying to get them to stop. Covington said Ivey then fired shots into the air multiple times.

At an intersection, pulled up next to them and fired three shots into the car before driving off.

WBTV reports Ivey has an extensive criminal history and is a convicted felon.
