Yuma Police Department looking for teenagers kicking house and garage doors

A group of masked teenagers has been going around kicking garage and house doors.

YUMA, Ariz. (KYMA, KECY) - The Yuma Police Department (YPD) is sending a warning to a group of teenagers kicking doors and garages.

Police say the group has caused hundreds of dollars in property damages, and will face serious consequences if caught.

"This isn't some type of innocent prank like back in the day. When you would do the ding dong ditch, this is actually causing criminal damage," said YPD Officer Christina Fernandez.

They've done it in several locations throughout the city.

One of the houses attacked can be seen here, and while the damage isn't extreme, it is still a crime.

Kayla Ramirez, who was home during one of the attacks, says it was frightening to experience.

"My cousins and I were inside and we were scared. We hid in my aunt's room and we didn't come out because we didn't know what was going on," said Ramirez.

Ramirez says the teens had masks on when they got away.

YPD says there are different types of criminal damage they can be charged with. The primary being criminal damage. This comes with fees and fines that the parents and teens will have to pay.

"We want to remind parents to speak with their children about the consequences that can impact their future. We want to again remind them to speak with their children, know who they're hanging out with, know where they're at," said Officer Fernandez.

Ramirez asks these parents to speak with their kids.

"To not do this because they scare a lot of people into thinking that something will happen to them, that someone will enter their house, for it not to happen again because it is scary to experience," said Ramirez.
