Stolen Corvette suspect leads Border Patrol in high speed car chase
IMPERIAL COUNTY, Calif. (KYMA, KECY) - A suspect led U.S Border Patrol agents from El Centro on a high-speed chase after the Corvette he was driving was reported stolen.
Border Patrol El Centro Sector made a post on social media March 14 but have not specified what day the chase happened.
Agents say an unmarked Border Patrol vehicle was on Highway 111 when an agent saw a Corvette speeding at 150 miles per hour.
Border patrol says the suspect was heading towards Mexico when the agent attempted to stop him.
"Agents deployed a vehicle mobilization device and punched the two front tires of the fleeing vehicle. The vehicle slowed down to 100 miles per hour and continued to drive recklessly, running several red lights in his attempt to avoid capture," said Agent Mitzy Hernandez with the U.S Border Patrol agents from El Centro.
Border Patrol says the suspect is from the U.S, but crossed into Mexico where he was arrested.
He's being charged with three felonies including receiving stolen property and unlawful driving. He's still in Mexico waiting to be extradited to the U.S.
