Murder preliminary hearing continues

Witnesses continue to testify on the second day of the preliminary hearing for a murder case that happened in 2021

EL CENTRO, Calif. (KYMA, KECY) - It's the second day of the preliminary hearing for the man accused of murdering his ex-wife near Calexico in 2021.

A witness who rented a home on the property of the victim, Rose Campos, testified Thursday.

He said he was getting ready for work around 6 or 7 a.m. preparing his lunch when he heard what sounded like a scream, but didn't make much of it as he was playing music and his wife was in the shower.

Then he said when he was leaving for work, he saw the two front gates open with the victim's keys attached to one of the doors.

The deputy who found Rose's body inside a studio she owned, also testified.

He said when he went to check on the victim, he found her lying in a pool of blood in the living room.

The district attorney said there are many witnesses left to testify.

"The prosecutor who we assigned John Harder, he is using many witnesses to testify in this case and that is a discretion that he is making as a prosecutor. People have asked us the reason for that. I am not going to go into the testimony, what I can say is that sometimes at the preliminary hearing when witnesses testify it's a good way to lock their testimony," stated Imperial County District Attorney George Marquez.

The preliminary hearing is set to continue into next week, we will continue to bring the latest on this case.
