No outdoor salons or barbers for Imperial County
County does not yet meet coronavirus reopening criteria
EL CENTRO, Calif. (KYMA, KECY) - Imperial County will not be among those California counties allowing businesses like hair and nail salons, and barbershops, to move their operations outdoors.
On Monday, Governor Gavin Newsom announced counties who meet certain criteria for coronavirus could let personal service businesses move into their parking lots and outside areas.
However, Imperial County officials issued a clarification Tuesday evening saying that wouldn't be happening here. Their statement cited guidance from the California Department of Public Health (CDPH):
“All guidance should be implemented only with local health officer approval following a review of local epidemiological data including cases per 100K, rate of test positivity, and local preparedness to support a health care surge, vulnerable populations, contact tracing and testing.”

The County says it continues to work closely with local, state, and federal to lower the Valley's positivity rate in the hopes of being able to reopen a wide variety of businesses. It urges residents to continue to wear masks, practice social distancing, wash their hands often, and stay at home to help acheive that goal.
