EL CENTRO, Calif. (KYMA, KECY)-The Imperial County Board chairman Luis Plancarte will be providing an update Thursday at our local hospitals.

Plancarte will be joined by representatives from the El Centro Regional Medical Center (ECRMC), and the Pioneers Memorial Healthcare District (PMHD).

Both hospitals will give an update on their capacity to treat COVID-19 patients.

This comes on the heels of ECRMC's announcement Tuesday that the hospital was diverting COVID-19 patients due to a high surge in cases.

As of Wednesday afternoon, at least 40 COVID-19 patients from both hospitals had been transferred to other hospitals in the region, according to Emergency Medical Services Manager Chris Herring.

Herring added that between Monday and Tuesday positive cases in the valley had increased by 27%.

Tune in to 13 On Your Side at 4 p.m. as Alexandra Rangel provides an update from both hospitals.
