Imperial County begins to chart roadmap to recovery
Planning gets underway with input from variety of community members and agencies
EL CENTRO, Calif. (KYMA, KECY) - The Imperial County Board of Supervisors announced Tuesday it's making plans to restart the economy while continuing to protect the public health at the same time.
County Executive Officer Tony Rouhotas met with city managers from across the Valley Monday to discuss recovery plans. The board has now authorized Rouhotas to expand his discussions to include health officials, law enforcement, chambers of commerce, non-profit groups, and schools.
“We will be unveiling this, as we can, on how to open businesses,” Mr. Rouhotas said, adding safety of all Imperial Valley residents remains the highest priority. “We will still maintain our ability to maintain the safety of our communities.”
County leaders say the health and safety of Imperial Valley residents remain their highest priority. However, they believe it is time to begin the dialogue needed to move forward and reopen the economy.
The county took its first step towards normalcy on Saturday when it re-opened its parks and recreation areas. Leaders continue to urge anyone who visits these areas to practice social distancing, and to continue to wear face masks or coverings.
