Suspect who shot at TV station in Bakersfield pleads not guilty

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (CBS, KYMA) - Thomashana Renee Zeigler, the woman accused of opening fire on KBAK newsroom twice in a matter of days and attempting to do it a third time, made her first court appearance Tuesday afternoon.

She told the judge she did not want to be recorded, but he denied her request and said it was the public's right.

Ziegler announced her Veteran status to the courtroom. The judge asked if she could afford an attorney.

Both shootings were caught on camera, and this video shows the moment Ziegler was arrested October 15, just two days after the second shooting took place.

Police said they caught her with a 40 caliber handgun and a loaded magazine inside her car.

Now, Ziegler had another request for the judge. It was in the crowded courtroom where he was reading aloud her charges that she interjected, raising a finger and asked if she could object, which was denied.

Ziegler faces a total of eight charges, including shooting at an inhabited dwelling, vandalism, and carrying a loaded firearm in public. Nobody was injured in the two shootings.

Ziegler pleaded not guilty to all of the charges. She was remanded without bail, and her next court appearance is scheduled for October 30.
