Nick Reiner indicted in deaths of his parents

LOS ANGELES (NBC, KYMA) - Nick Reiner has been indicted in the deaths of his parents, Rob and Michele Reiner, in a stabbing attack inside the family's Brentwood home last December.

A grand jury indictment was unsealed Wednesday morning at the Criminal Courts building in downtown Los Angeles.

Reiner was already facing first-degree murder charges with special circumstance allegations.

The indictment replaces those charges and, according to L.A. County District Attorney Nathan Hochman, also adds an additional special circumstance allegation that the murders were committed while Reiner allegedly was lying in wait, upping the severity of the potential case against him.

Reiner will no longer face a preliminary hearing that was expected this fall, and the case moves directly towards a jury trial.

Reiner was arrested back in December, a day after his parents' bodies were discovered inside their home.

Following the unsealing of the indictment, Reiner once again entered a not guilty plea.

He remains in custody without bail.
