Domestic incident leads to standoff and fatal fire

WOODLAND HILLS, Calif. (NBC, KYMA) - In Southern California, a domestic violence dispute between a husband and wife lead to a standoff, an explosive fire, and a deadly discovery over the weekend.

It happened in the town of Woodland Hills about 25 miles outside of Los Angeles.

The Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) said officers responded to the two-story townhome for a domestic violence investigation Sunday afternoon.

A man inside, originally wanted on felony domestic violence charges, reportedly was not cooperating with officers, and ended up barricading himself inside the home.

A SWAT team as well as the Los Angeles Fire Department responded to the scene as well, and five hours later the fire erupted.

LAPD officials say guns were stored in the home, and gunshots were heard during the fire.

The suspect, described as a 47-year-old man, was later found dead inside the home, LAPD shared Monday.

LAPD also confirmed officers did not fire their weapons.

According to the LAPD, the man's wife had gone to a nearby police station accusing her husband of domestic violence and sexual assault.
