California man found guilty in the death of his wife

SAN DIEGO (CNN, KYMA) - Jurors found a California man guilty of first-degree murder in the death of his wife Thursday.

44-year-old Larry Millete has been in custody since 2021, the same year his wife, Maya, went missing, and her body has never been found.

During the eight week-long trial, prosecutors presented their case using digital and circumstantial evidence.

"We went one juror at a time. Everybody got three minutes because we wanted to find out because we'd never talked to each other," said Beverly Feldman, one of the jurors. "We had no idea what was on anybody's mind. When we got done with the circle of 12, we all knew at that point we all felt he was guilty of murder. At that point, we didn't know if it was first or second degree."

"We felt that she wasn't beat up. There wasn't blood spatter. There wasn't any of that brought into evidence and so but that wasn't an issue that they made it clear," Feldman added. "The issue was, did he do it with the criteria of murder and then in the first degree and it was a unanimous decision on that."

While there is no word yet on when Millete will be sentenced, he is facing up to life in prison.
