Firefighters knock down Boyle Heights Fire

LOS ANGELES (NBC, KYMA) - Firefighters say a fire that burned for a week in a huge cold food storage warehouse in Los Angeles has been knocked down.

The announcement came Wednesday evening, clearing the way for a massive cleanup at the site.

Work will involve removing millions of pounds of food from the site in the Boyle Heights neighborhood.

The fire at the lineage warehouse started on June 17 in solar panels on the roof. Since then, smoke has impacted air quality in several parts of the city.

A particle pollution advisory was allowed to expire Wednesday.
