California homeowner talks about Sandy Fire destroying her home

SIMI VALLEY, Calif. (NBC, KYMA) - A Simi Valley homeowner recounts the terrifying moments the Sandy Fire destroyed the home she's lived in for nearly four decades.

Beth Byle spoke with NBC affiliate KNBC about the moment she lost her home.

"I was working from home which is not normal, I had allergies that morning and I decided to work from home. Shortly after 10, maybe 10:30 he had gotten notification from our ring app that there was a fire nearby and he wanted me to go check outside to see where it was. I saw fire on the other side of the next ridge over near the water tower and while I was watching that I noticed that there were sparks starting new fires down the hill. The wind went from 10 miles per hour to 100 miles per hour in no time. It was coming straight at us and I could barely stand up against it."

Despite the loss, she says the overwhelming support from neighbors has already given her hope to rebuild.

"This is a great neighborhood. We've had so much outpouring of love from the neighbors, I'm going to get emotional, everybody's been wonderful. We've had several offers of rooming with people but we have insurance we're fine," she expressed.

According to Cal Fire, as of Wednesday, the fire has burned nearly 1,700 acres and is 15% contained.
