Knife-wielding man seen terrorizing California neighborhood

SACRAMENTO, Calif. (CBS, KYMA) - Terrifying doorbell footage has emerged from Sacramento, California, where a knife-wielding man approached and reportedly attempted to access homes on April 30.

The Sacramento County Sheriff's Office (SCSO) said Brian Mattson, 56, was approaching homes with the knife in his hand and "acting bizarre" on La Sierra Drive Thursday evening.

Footage captured from Rebecca Breen's residence shows the suspect wielding a knife at the front door, in what police said "raised significant concern among residents."

Mattson, who was on felony probation, was arrested Saturday and only charged with criminal trespassing, and as a result, was released from custody less than two hours after being booked, the sheriff's office said.

"We are asking anyone who may have had contact with him, or who may have been a victim of any unreported crimes during this incident, to come forward. Additional victims and information could lead to further charges," they wrote.

In an updated post on Facebook, SCSO says North Patrol deputies responded to a business near Fair Oaks Blvd and San Lucas Way after receiving reports of Mattson trespassing on the property hours after his release.

Upon arrival, SCSO says deputies found him on site and took him into custody without incident.

Mattson is currently being held at the Sacramento County Main Jail after a violation of probation hold was approved.
