Warthogs team up for digging at Oakland Zoo

OAKLAND, Calif. (CBS, KYMA) - Two warthogs at Oakland Zoo recently surprised visitors by teaming up for a joint excavation.

Footage shared online shows one digging into the ground before a second jumps in, turning it into a two-snouted effort.

According to the zoo, warthogs use their tough snouts to root through soil in search of food like roots and bulbs.

"That unmistakable warthog face isn't just for looks," the zoo wrote on social media. "Their tough, shovel-like snout helps them dig face-first through hard, dry savanna soil."
