Police arrest man in connection to double stabbing in Southern California

BURBANK, Calif. (NBC, KYMA) - Police in Southern California have arrested a man in connection with a double stabbing in Burbank which left one woman dead and her daughter seriously injured.

On Monday night, police arrested 30-year-old Sergio Fraire on suspicion of murder and attempted murder.

Police say he was taken into custody without incident at what they believe is his residence and investigators recovered "evidence related to the crime."

The double stabbing happened in a home in Burbank.

Arti Varma, who taught elementary school, and her 25-year-old daughter were taken to a hospital, where the mother died.

Police say the relationship between the suspect and the victims is under investigation.
