(NBC, KYMA) - Wednesday marks the one year anniversary of the devastating and deadly wildfires that ravaged vast swaths of Southern California.

Fast moving twin infernos erupted at opposite ends of Los Angeles County on January 7, 2025, reducing thousands of homes in the Palisades and Altadena neighborhoods to rubble.

The Palisades Fire scorched more than 23,000 coastal acres between Pacific Palisades and Malibu while the Eaton Fire burned more than 14,000 acres.

Combined, the Palisades and Eaton Fires killed at least 31 people and destroyed more than 16,000 structures, many of them homes.

Rebuilding has been slow across the region, but progress is inspiring hope, and with Wednesday's anniversary comes numerous remembrance and commemoration events across the region, including an update on where recovery stands organized by the Eaton Fire Survivors Network.

There will also be benefit concerts, vigils, tributes and a peaceful rally to honor those who lost their lives, to salute the courage of first responders, and to recognize the resilience of all those who were dramatically impacted by the fires.
