Man who flew drone into a firefighting aircraft during Palisades Fire sentenced

(NBC, KYMA) - The man whose drone damaged a firefighting Super Scooper during the Palisades Fire in California has been sentenced.

The U.S. Attorney's Office says a judge sentenced Peter Akemann to 14 days in federal prison Monday, two weeks less than prosecutors had requested.

Authorities say Akemann launched his drone on January 9 to check out wildfire damage, but lost sight of it.

They said there was no indication Akemann intended to strike the aircraft.

His sentence also includes 30 days home confinement and two years supervised release. He'll have to pay a $9,500 fine and nearly $150,000 dollars in restitution.
