California police officer shot, reported to be in stable condition

STOCKTON, Calif. (NBC, KYMA/KECY) - The Stockton Police Department say they have detained at least one person following the early Wednesday morning shooting of a police sergeant.

However, they have not said yet if that person is definitely a suspect in the shooting.

Police say the sergeant was shot in the chest while investigating an early morning carjacking. They say he spotted the car and began a pursuit.

When the car stopped a short time later, the suspect or suspects ran while firing at the sergeant.

He's listed as stable.
