DOT to investigate Southwest Airlines’ flight cancelations

LOS ANGELES, Calif. (NBC) - The Department of Transportation says it will investigate Southwest Airlines' flight cancelations in recent days that has left passengers stranded across the nation.

Although many airlines had to cancel flights due to the weekend winter storm, Southwest had the most problems.

According to FlightAware, of the more than 2,800 flights canceled, Southwest canceled more than 2,500 flights.

A Southwest spokesperson says cancellations snowballed due to the storm that impacted flight crews and planes.
