Plane crashes at MCAS Miramar in San Diego

UPDATE (11:43 AM): NBC affiliate KNSD has provided an update on the plane crash at MCAS Miramar in San Diego.

KNSD spoke with Capt. Steven Keenan, a Marine Corps spokesperson, who said an "F-35B assigned to 3rd Marine Aircraft Group 11 went down at around 10 a.m.," in which Capt. Keenan called "a Class A mishap."

Keenan also said the pilot, who was the only person on board, "ejected from the plane and was recovered," but it is unknown if the pilot was injured.

SAN DIEGO (KYMA, NBC) - A plane crashed at MCAS Miramar military base in San Diego Friday morning.

According to NBC affiliate KNSD, the crash sparked a fire in a field located north of State Route 52.

Footage captured by KNSD shows a plane in two pieces "amid a football-field-sized patch of scorched earth."

It is not clear what caused the crash, or if any injuries were reported, but News 11 will keep you updated on this developing story.
