Border Patrol stops pickup loaded with more than a dozen illegal immigrants

Agents say video surveillance tracked truck's progress from Mexico

The Cadillac Escalade truck Border Patrol agents say carried 14 undocumented migrants illegally into the U.S.

OCOTILLO, Calif. (KYMA, KECY) - The U.S. Border Patrol says its video surveillance system prevented a truck loaded with undocumented immigrants from successfully slipping into the U.S.

El Centro Sector agents say Remote Video Surveillance System (RVSS) operators picked up a Cadillac Escalade in the desert about 22-miles west of the Calexico Port of Entry. RVSS monitored the truck as it crossed the border and headed north towards Highway 98.

In the meantime, agents made their way towards the Escalade. They say they found it stuck in the sand on the side of the road. They say two of the truck's occupants tried to escape on foot, but did not get away. After a short search of the area, agents say they took 15 people into custody, the driver and 14 passengers, all of them in the U.S. illegally.

Agents took all 15 to the El Centro Sector Processing Center. The driver will face criminal charges. The undocumented migrants will be released back into Mexico if they pass a background check.
