GoFundMe created for family of Arizona man whose leg was amputated

BULLHEAD CITY, Ariz. (KYMA) - A GoFundMe has been created to help the family of an Arizona man whose leg was amputated after suffering second and third-degree burns.

The GoFundMe's organizer said Grant Siler of Bullhead City, Arizona tripped and fell while walking outside in the extreme heat earlier this month, rendering him unconscious.

Siler was found at least a hour later, the organizer said, but he suffered second and third degree burns in multiple areas of his body.

He was taken to BURN ICU in Las Vegas, where it was discovered that Siler has "multiple organ-shock as well as heat stroke," according to the organizer.

Siler then had to undergo surgery, but the organizer said the surgeon found that the tissue on Siler's right leg was so "extremely damaged that it would likely not ever fully heal."

This prompted the surgeon to perform an above-knee amputation, which his daughter, Heather Crook, said the surgery went well and her father's pain is "much better controlled."

Crook also said, "We are now entering phantom pain, where Dad still gets nerve signals that tell his brain that his leg and foot are still hurting. Dad is finally wanting and willing to eat some food now that he can process more than just excruciating pain. So he is doing way better but still has a long way to go and his left leg is not out of the woods yet."

The GoFundMe, which was created to help pay the medical bills and other expenses, has a goal of $16,000, with over $14,000 raised so far.
