Suspect dead after hour long standoff in Glendale, Arizona

GLENDALE, Ariz. (NBC, KYMA) - A barricade situation in Glendale, Arizona ended with the suspect dead after an hour long standoff with police.

The Glendale Police Department (GPD) responded to a home near 75th and Glendale Avenue around noon Wednesday after a woman reported seeing her father inside the home, allegedly violating an order of protection.

Police say the 59-year-old suspect was known to be armed and had body armor and other protective equipment inside the home.

When officers and SWAT tried to make contact, police say the man barricaded himself inside and repeatedly fired a rifle at officers for more than two hours.

Multiple police vehicles were hit by gunfire.

GPD also say the suspect shot two department drones that were being used during the standoff.

Gunfire stopped around 6 p.m. Wednesday, and a drone was then flown inside the home, where officers found the suspect dead.

Police say the man was also a suspect in a separate investigation connected to the same home.
