Firefighter in Arizona gets NASCAR experience amid cancer battle
PHOENIX (CNN, KYMA/KECY) - Racing across the checkered flags Tuesday at Phoenix Raceway in Avondale was firefighter and cancer survivor Paul Shupe.
For two years, Shupe has been in a race of a different kind: A grueling battle against glioblastoma.
On Tuesday, he traded the hospital for the thrill of the NASCAR racetrack, cheered on by his family and Mesa fire crew
Shupe's lifelong dream to burn rubber came true, proving even the hardest roads can lead to a victory lap.
He is continuing his fight against cancer with the support of entire community.
