SAFFORD, Ariz. (KYMA, KECY) - Engines and hotshot crews were able to make some progress battling the Bryce Fire.

The fire is about five hours northeast of Yuma, by Safford, Arizona.

The human-caused fire has burned almost 3,000 acres with 25% containment.

Overnight, firefighters successfully conducted "backburns" making way for the main fire to burn and slowing the spread.

On Monday, crews worked around the perimeter improving containment lines all while working against high winds, along with hot, and dry conditions.

Nearby residents are still on evacuation status, meaning they should have a go bag packed and ready to go.

The fire has been burning since Wednesday.
