Sinema, Kelly highlight concerns as Title 42 is ending soon

YUMA, Ariz. (KYMA, KECY) - The deadline is approaching for the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) to respond to Senators Kyrsten Sinema and Mark Kelly.

Through a press release, they are also calling on DHS for a detailed list of preparations for the end of Title 42.

The Senators, in addition with Jon Tester from Montana, posed several questions to the DHS.

They highlight the concerns they all have when Title 42 ends in December.

Some of those questions include:

  • How the Biden Administration plans to ensure operational control of the border
  • If there will be fair and humane treatment for migrants once Title 42 ends

"In Arizona, shelters have been forced well beyond capacity. This month, El Paso has seen over 700 migrants released directly onto city streets due to overcrowding. This is not safe, and creates a dangerous situation for migrants and communities,” the Senators wrote.
