Arizona man who fled during trial gets 28 years for attacking camper
Yavapai County Superior Court oversaw trial
PRESCOTT, Ariz. (KYMA, KECY/AP) - The Yavapai County Sheriff's Office reports a man whom was on the run for three years from police has finally been sentenced to 28 years in prison for attacking a camper back in 2018.
Yavapai authorities say Payson police officers arrested 44-year-old Robert David Pearsall III on Thursday, July 22 after Pearsall was stopped for a traffic violation.
According to police, they tried to stop him on his moped, but he attempted to get away. When officers finally got a hold of him, they realized he was a fugitive after he failed to fool them with a fake name.
Judge Tina Ainley sentenced Pearsall on Wednesday.
Pearsall III was out on bond when he ran away two days before jurors voted him guilty in his Yavapai County Superior Court trial on attempted first-degree murder and aggravated assault charges.
In September 2018, Pearsall hit a man on the head repeatedly with a large board in a camping area near Perkinsville. This led to his eventual conviction.
