KUALA LUMPUR, Malaysia (AP) — A senior diplomat says Southeast Asia’s foreign ministers have decided not to invite Myanmar’s military leader to an annual summit for refusing to let an envoy meet ousted leader Aung San Suu Kyi. The move by the Association of Southeast Asian Nations is the biggest rebuke so far for Myanmar since the Feb. 1 military takeover toppled a civilian government led by Suu Kyi. ASEAN appointed Brunei’s diplomat to mediate in the crisis, but he abruptly canceled his trip this week after learning he couldn’t meet Suu Kyi and others. The diplomat said there was no consensus to invite Myanmar’s Senior Gen. Min Aun Hlaing to the Oct. 26-28 summit meetings. He said Brunei will instead invite a non-political representative from Myanmar.
