Mississippi police release body camera footage moments before one-year-old fatally shot

MISSISSIPPI (CBS, KYMA) - Dramatic new images of a deadly shooting in a Walmart parking lot start with video of two women carrying a baby and a pack of diapers running towards a gray car.

The body camera video shows five officers race outside, they rush towards the grey car with the women and one year old Kohen Wiley inside.

The car reverses then slams into a parked car and officers run toward it, yelling for the driver to stop.

As officers approach the car, the driver appears to accelerate towards at least one of them. One officer appears to shoot into the car before it drives away. You can also hear several more shots fired. Kohen Wiley was killed in the gunfire.

His mother, Vellesiya Wiley said she tried to show officers there was a child on her lap.

Officers are later heard talking about the child.

"Nobody knew the baby was there. All I saw was two females in the car," one police officer is heard saying.

The compilation of videos first published by Darkhorse Press and verified by CBS News, does not show the full police response.

Earlier this week, Mississippi's top prosecutor said the officers were justified in their response.

CBS News has reached out to the Mississippi Attorney General's Office in light of this new video.
