Historic flooding in Indiana forcing hundreds of residents to evacuate

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. (NBC, KYMA) - Historic flooding along the White River in the Indianapolis area is forcing hundreds of people to evacuate.

Emergency crews are going through neighborhoods in boats and rescuing people and their pets from the rising water.

Authorities say more than 400 people have been evacuated and crews have carried out 38 water rescues just since Friday.

Indianapolis Mayor Joe Hogsett says this is the worst flooding the city has seen in 30 years.

He has declared a local disaster emergency and is urging people who live where the river is rising to leave now.
