U.S. swelters through hottest month of July ever recorded

(NBC, KYMA) - The U.S. just had its hottest month on record.

A report by National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) said July 2026 was not only the warmest July, but also the warmest month in the agency's 132 years of record-keeping, with warmer than normal temperatures averaging 76.9 degrees.

13 states experienced their top five warmest Julys, while Wyoming had its warmest July and warmest month on record.

The NOAA said sites across Idaho, Utah, Wyoming and Montana set new all-time high temperature records, specifically on July 12, with several cities reporting temperatures over 100 degrees that day.
