Kaiser Canyon Fire grows to 126,000 acres

OKANAGEN COUNTY, Wash. (NBC, KYMA) - Fire crews in Washington state are continuing to battle the Kaiser Canyon Fire that's been burning in Okanagen County for about two weeks.

The wildfire grew to about 126,000 acres Tuesday with some go now evacuation orders in place.

"Fire started from a lightning strike just over the ridge, fought it for the first day couldn't quite get containment on it." said Cody Desautel, Executive Director for Colville Tribes, disrupting the lives of those who call this place home.

At more than 126,000 acres, it's more than twice the size of Seattle and more than one thousand firefighters are now assigned to it.

Red flag conditions are once again creating a challenge especially along the east side of the fire.

Crews do not want it moving farther east toward more homes along the Highway 121 corridor.

That's why crews are patrolling the fire's edge looking for new spot fires and putting them out before they can grow, conditions have already produced extreme fire growth.
